The
purpose of a Film and Television Commission is to promote and market a
particular geographic area so as to attract Film, Television, Fashion Photography
and Special Events Producers to realize their projects in the particular
area being promoted, as opposed to some other location in the world.
Today a very large percentage of film and tv is shot "on location", and
Altea, The Costa Blanca and the Valencian Community offer a wide variety
of unique and outstanding resources that are attractive to the Film and
TV industries, most especially the quantity and quality of natural light.
A logical and required compliment to the activity being promoted is a facility
to film "interior scenes", where additionally some of the post production
editing can be carried out. This facility is a Sound Stage/Studio, and
would make a complimentary resource of unparalleld value.
When a production company in any one of the above categories comes to a
particular area, they bring with them the majority of their requisites,
but not all. There is always a numerous list of products, services and

While the cast and crew are in residence they of course utilize all the
everyday services and products that they would use in their own homes;
restaurants, supermarkets, gas stations, newspaper and magazine stands,
dry cleaners, etc.
The expenditure of monies for these locally secured products and services
is made directly with the local business people that provide them, thus
increasing in very real terms their business opportunites . This is the
focal point of attracting such productions, the economic development of
the region being promoted.
There is however a very significant ancillary benefit; that is the elevation
of the national and international profile of the area and along with it
the imparting of its own cache and glamour. This always has the additional
positive impact of attracting people who are better prepared, better educated
and of a higher median income. The wealthy and the up and coming revel
in being surrounded by glamour, and nothing quite imbues it like the film
and fashion industries. Where "the beautiful prople" are (trite as the
term may be), are the personalities that attract the attention of the press,
thus perpetuating the cycle of positive publicity. As long as it is all
handled with class and discretion in an atmosphere controlled with moderation
from the start, it can have nothing but a very positive impact on the community.
