In recent years teenagers have become especially active in self-deleting text. The main reason for this is that the majority of the people who have used it to bully others have been teenagers. This usually takes one of two forms; either they write a message and immediately delete it, or they deliberately write something loud enough to be seen by everyone in the proximity of them. As most people tend to presume that teenagers are interested in writing memes or nonsense messages, many people find it surprising when these messages are being made by teens.
